​Hi, I am Sonia, owner and principle designer at Sonia Barney Design. With a bachelor's degree in interior design, I have spent the last 16 years honing my craft while working as a cabinetry designer in a high-end kitchen and bath firm in Scottsdale, Arizona, designing for friends and family, and teaching interior design part time at Brigham Young University Idaho. It wasn’t until my special needs children were able to go to school that I realized I was beyond ready to open my own design firm. Sonia Barney Design was born in 2015 and has steadily grown, now with several wonderful employees and numerous completed projects. We are thrilled to be a leading design firm in East Idaho that specializes in residential and commercial interiors.

We know what you're thinking...

Why would I pay someone so much to help me pick paint colors and pillows? 
​What you're thinking is that we are decorators who specialize solely in furniture and décor. While it's true that we do interior furnishings and color selection, a professional interior designer is so much more. Think of us as interior architects. We not only understand how best to arrange the living room furniture,  we also understand the structural and mechanical systems of a home so we can discuss solutions to problems not yet visible. We specialize in cabinetry design with custom solutions that fit your unique needs. From initial space planning to the final piece of art, we can visualize and bring a whole new space to life.
I'll save the money and do it myself.
​We hear this all the time. Don’t get us wrong, some people that aren’t designers have an eye for design and can put things together. But it still takes time and your time has value. What would take you 100 hours to learn and decide may only take us 10. We have spent the last 20 years studying and working as interior designers. You are hiring a team that knows the industry, knows the pitfalls and go-to solutions, and can efficiently steer you in the right direction so you don’t unintentionally make expensive mistakes. Quite simply, design is our superpower and we love it! Let us take that stress off your plate so you are free to use your time doing what you love. 
I'll just use my contractor to select the interior finishes and lighting. 
​Contractors are wonderful and essential in this business, especially when it comes to large remodels or new homes. But their time is best spent coordinating with subcontractors, getting correct permits, and ensuring the project is completed safely and correctly. Just like there are specialties in the medical industry, there are also specialties in the construction industry. You wouldn’t have a dermatologist work on your heart, and you shouldn’t have a contractor make all your interior design selections. Each have different skill sets and training. If you are looking for hands-on design development and a tailor-made solution, your best bet is always a skilled designer.

Still wondering if Sonia Barney Design is the right fit for you? Our process includes a quick 15 minute phone call to answer basic questions, and then a low-cost Initial Consultation. No strings attached.  

​For just $250*, the Initial Consultation includes 1-2 hours of in-person design consultation. Not only will we learn more about you and your needs, we will start brainstorming solutions for your space. Then you will receive a custom quote for your unique project scope. At that point you can decide if you want to continue with additional design services.
*Additional fee for out-of-town Initial Consultations.
