Mentoring, Internships, and Job Shadowing are ways in which we give future designers behind-the-scenes insight to the typical day of an interior design firm. Read below to learn more about each experience and for how you can apply for one of these experiences. 

Mentoring

Are you considering becoming an interior designer? Are you debating whether to go to design school? Have you just graduated and don't know where to begin to get a job? Have you started your own design business and want advice on how to get it going? 

Sonia offers complimentary mentoring and advice to young or new designers. The goal is to get you going in the right direction and point you to resources that will help you build a successful career.

Internships

Internships are typically a 3 month+ opportunity for students or new designers to get hands on experience in a working design firm.

As an intern you will get to:
  • Shadow current designers as they work with clients and contractors
  • Practice your design skills with in-office projects
  • Assist designers with drawings, concept boards, and meeting organization
  • Work with samples and learn about new products
  • Watch problem solving skills and customer service in action
  • See behind-the-scenes of a business and understand that a design career is much more than just design
  • Be mentored by a team of professionals eager to answer all of your questions

Job Shadow Day

Job Shadowing is another way we like to offer students and new designers a bit of the hands on experience when internships opportunities are available.

During a Job Shadow Day you will get to:
  • Join the SBD team to shadow current designers on a typical day in the office and possibly at meetings with clients or job site visits
  • Get a tour of a working design firm office
  • Watch problem solving skills and customer service in action
  • See behind-the-scenes of a business and understand that a design career is much more than just design
  • Have the opportunity to ask a team of professionals any question you have about the interior design field
  • Gain a mentor for life if you have further questions
